Name: THE ROYAL RETURN KING’S GOLD
Wrapper: USA Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua & USA
Origin: Dominican Republic
Vitola Smoked: Robusto
From its construction to the thin metal-like band reminiscent of a king’s shield, the ADVentura Royal Return King’s Gold is quite the looker. In addition to the toothy USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, the King’s Gold is one of the most perfectly-packed cigars i’ve smoked, featuring a Mexican San Andres binder and Nicaraguan, USA, and Dominican fillers. I chose to smoke the Robusto, but it is also available in both Toro and Corona vitolas.
The first third was definitely my favorite, featuring earthy, dried fruit, and chocolatey flavors right off the bat. It is a tad-bit spicy on the retro-hale, but made up for it with woodsy, floral and leathery notes.
The second third of the cigar is when you get hit with savory notes. It starts off with an emergence of black pepper, which slowly ramps up both on the tongue and the retro-hale, accompanied by the dried fruit and earthy notes from the first third which stick around in the background.
The final third is a bit of a wildcard, serving up a strong roasted espresso bean flavor, followed by gentle notes of almonds, chocolate, cinnamon, leathery, earthy and floral flavors.
The cigar’s construction is pretty damn perfect, hitting top marks in all aspects. A simple straight cut resulted in an excellent draw, the burn on this stick needed little to no correcting, solid ash throughout and the smoke output is no joke, producing plenty of dense, white smoke from start to finish.
In conclusion, The Royal Return King’s Gold is aptly named, being worth its weight in gold yet affordable, and another gem from the William Ventura Factory.
