I first smoked the European version of the Villiger de Nicaragua at the Intertabac trade-show in Germany and was astonished by the flavor profile and enjoyability factor. The next time I met the Villiger team was back in Miami, where I asked them about bringing this cigar to the U.S. market. Our dear friend Rene Castañeda simply nodded and looked for a torpedo version of the same cigar I smoked in Europe. We both smiled. A 6×52 medium bodied torpedo sporting the same blend carrying an Ecuadorian wrapper, Mexican binder, and Nicaraguan + USA fillers was arguably one of the nicest cigars I enjoyed nearing the end of 2022. An ultra-limited release which we have been lucky to secure a chunk of, provides distinctive flavors of sweet molasses, pecan, toasted marshmallow, hay, and figs.
